Threaded Discussion: Rules of Netiquette

A great topic that I have learned in IS101 at CSN is the Rules of Netiquette. Netiquette refers to rules of etiquette that should be observed while using computer networks, such as the Internet. Writing clearly and concisely without using shortened phrases such as "lol" help establish a more professional presence while online using computer networks on the internet. Writing in all capital letters can come off as angry and rude and should be avoided. I believe that everyone using the internet should avoid being a troll online and understand that their behavior online is a direct reflection on how they conduct themselves professionally. The Rules of Netiquette is a great topic that should be taught in school to help educate users on how to interact with other properly.

  1. Yes, netiquette is important hence it is showcased with five short videos and require students to summarize what they learned from each video at the beginning of A2 Blog.

Actually, it began in A1 Accounts Setup and Professional Communication with the requirement for students to Cc: themselves on emails such as 'Acceptance of Syllabus' and creating a professional email signature for their CSN Student Email account :-)

  3. Netiquette is definitely becoming a keystone of professional communication; teaching a full-on digital communications course focusing on netiquette and similar topics would benefit students, no doubt.

  4. Netiquette is definitely important. Although, I think people who play video games are a victim to bad netiquette, including myself with games like Call of Duty, Valorant, or League of Legends, but if the situation calls for it, I definitely do have professionalism.

  6. All it is is just proper etiquette over the computer which it should be common for everybody but unfortunately it isn't. It's ridiculous how rude people can be when they are protected by a computer screen.

  7. I agree Netiquette is very important to know and have. Unfortunately not everyone has it. Facebook is a great example of where I see a lot of people like to comment on post and have no respect for other people opinions and view points.

  8. Netiquette was one of the first topic that caught my interest, it seems simple, but it is very important for your digital foot print of how you want to be viewed on the World Wide Web.

  9. I didn't know what it was called before but I was already aware of it, but I'm surprised that not everyone is aware of this concept already. It's super important and I think we need to be more aware of it when socializing online.

  11. I also found rules of netiquette to be very interesting we need to separate how we act on the internet in a professional vs a personal setting.

  12. I enjoyed this section as well. It made me realize that I should stop capitalizing words in emails because it could seem like I'm yelling instead of creating emphasis.

  13. It is such an important thing to keep an eye out especially if you get along with people and know people at work. Being professional at all times is something that I know that I need to improve on and things like texting and casual conversations are things that can be improved on as things move forward.
